So sorry to hear of your injury. That's what happens when you're athletic. Thank goodness the only display of athleticism I ever achieved was hula hooping. Pretty hard to injure yourself standing in one position. Take care of yourself and video & pictures will be forthcoming.

Still feelin' fine at 59!

To my wonderful classmates: Well, I started dreading this last week, but the perfect storm has hit in Legerland. Last week I had to take the car in to get a bunch of work done. Finally got it back mid-week, this week. Also last week, I had some major computer problems that had me down for about 3 days+. With all the delays, it made it so I couldn't finish a rather big job I had/have going. Then this week, I find out my driver license had been suspended in the summer of 2007 for a failure to appear in the summer of 2003. So here I am, driving around for 6 years with a warrant out on me and a suspended license. And apparently for being cited only for no proof of insurance on me--no other violation (bond now at $900). I think I vaguely remember that happening one time, but also remember having it signed off on at the police station. So I have to go see the judge Monday to straighten it out. I mean, you can't register your car yearly without proof of insurance. So, I could have chanced it without registration, I could have borrowed a little money until next week, but the suspended license is a bit much. The stars just weren't right. But this comes from my heart. I am so glad to have stumbled unto this site and participated in a limited way. I had a chance to reconnect with a few of you who were important in my life, some from childhood, others that were very important to me in high school and beyond. There are still many that I remember that I haven't had a chance to connect with that I remember well and made my high school experience a very positive one. Figured I would run into them this weekend. Many who I participated in athletics with, in school clubs, and many who were in most of the classes I took, from Junior High through High School. I exchanged many emails and messages with Sherry, Bev, Sandy, Dolores, Corrine, Nunila, Bruce McClain, and ol Huitt (who used to live across the street from me), Tim Mainland, many of the players in Saturday's CLASSIC at Rancho Maria most of whom I remember. The memory is getting a little foggy at times and needs to be tweaked, but names and photographs bring back a flood of memories. However, I make this pledge: I will work on keeping my health and living long enough to make it in 4 or 5 years...or whenever it is. I expect the same from everyone else. Please enjoy yourselves! And, one more thing. I plan on working this weekend, but will someone, or someones, who are playing in the CLASSIC tomorrow, please take some pictures and post them on the site sometime this weekend? That will give me a good reason to take a few breaks! And I will be working on the game again. I have wanted to get back into to it anyway. Can't play full court basketball anymore, ya know? Have a great time and enjoy. Steve Leger

Dear Committee Members who put their own lives on hold to insure that we had a lovely reunion, I thank you!!
All of your hard work and worries paid off with a room full of warm hugs and smiles that were welcomed and sincere...everyone connected again instantly as though time had stood still for us all (well, who am I fooling with all my white hair and wrinkles?).

Everything was just perfect and everyone is funnier and more beautiful with age. Laughter is good medicine and Marty and Beve kept Edna and me giggling for much of the evening...it was great fun.

I sat enriched and amazed at how your talents have led you all on such rich and varied paths. So many interesting stories to hear of your work and recreation ..like an adventure novel unfolding at every greeting.

Thank you for sharing your family photos (these days on cell phones and iphone contraptions that were unimaginable as we graduated forty-one years ago). Technology has changed and so have we, but I'm happy to discover that the same sweet soul remains true in each of you....and isn't it terrific that we all have such wonderful children? ..and some of you , grandchildren. It doesn't get much better, huh?

Stay healthy and happy until our next reunion please...and thanks again for the wonderful planning, the pretty table centerpieces, the remembrance CD's...and most importantly your friendships...
Blessings,
:)

Wow!...this weekend was awesome....Corrine...I bet My white hair topped everyone..even the men :)..I think I was born with White hair...at least my mom likes to tease me and say I had a gray hair at 1....I knew I had 'em at 7 when a friend pulled it out of my ponytail!
It was so much fun reconnecting with everyone...my darling husband let me sit him in a corner and let me go off and talk to everyone...and take pictures...It really wasn't enough time to talk to everyone but those of us who sat out in the lobby and later listening to the karoke singers (what a riot!) What fun!
The committee did an excellent! job!! I had left some of my centerpiece items at home and had to go Michels Craft store for more stuff (my original expenditure of $35 jumped to another $45 -because of course I had to buy additional items - not just the few (very few)items I'd left at home :) I ran into Jeannette Rabourn and Edna Montes buying stuff too.... and then went to Penny's and saw Nan McDonald! It was great seeing Mr. Yanez..he had fun playing golf with my husband !...
Sherry, John and Bev stayed on top of things and I thank them for making this reunion so memorable..Bev you were a riot at dinner...I could not belive all the info that popped out of your head on everyone there and didn't need any notes!...very impressive my friend! For those of ur classmates that couldn't make it, you must come to the next one in 4 yrs..right Carl..the new committee head?... Take care everyone and see you on the funny pages..errr class forum.

Dear All ~ your comments just warm my heart because I know I speak for the other committee members, that our focus was for everyone to get reconnected and have fun. We didn't plan a lot of activities - just a forum for fun, sharing of life's adventures and lots of laughter.

I had a blast from the beginning contact with Nancy Trebon Howard to the final good-bye to John and Maury Huitt.

I hope people continue to join the site which will continue for us to use, and we can forge on to the next season of our lives - enabling us to share along the way no matter where our proximity!!

My joy is seeing all the smiling faces, dancing with classmates, talking with so many of you and appreciating all the ways people have contributed to making our weekend so much fun and memorable.

More to come....

Sherry

I have to restate the obvious, this reunion was fantastic. I thought all who worked on it did a fantastic job. It was great to see old friends I hadn't seen in years and some that I just saw. I am looking forward to our next reunion in four more years.

I have been bringing up the pictures all of you have posted to the site and have so enjoyed seeing everyone. It is amazing how many of you I still recognize and would be able to pick out of a crowd. Thank you everyone for posting pictures for those of us that were'nt able to attend. Makes me really sad I couldn't be there.

Steve ~ I found a couple golf photos on Matias Rico's site of Coach Yanez and some of the golfers. I think there are two but someone has more. You may want to check with Matias and see if there are more that he didn't post.

Let me know and I will stop looking....hope that helps.

Unfortunately, I could not make the Saturday and Sunday part of the reunion. I was able to make the Friday Meet and Greet and very happy to reconnect with many of my classmates. There was time to chat and relive many old school memories that brought laughs and smiles to many of our faces. It was GREAT to see each and every one of you. Looking forward to the next one where I can, hopefully, attend all of the events. Thanks to all of you who made this possible.

This is the best site I've seen yet for Santa Maria High. I grew up in the area and started school at Miller St. Went to Fesler in the 7th and we moved so I went to El Camino for 8th grade. I lived down the hill from Doug Calderon and opposite side of road of the Guggia Farm. When we moved from farm life, we lived in different parts of Santa Maria. From the very north end all the way out to Tanglewood Division. That is where I met Laura Coleman, Sally Mitchell, Sandy Burchard, & many of the Tanglewood group. My best friend forever has been Margie Trotter (though that is no longer her name and she wasn't in our school.) Back then, I was dating Al Dutton who I married & had 2 children. We divorced and he is now married to Sonja Bowden. Sonja and I were friends and have stayed that way even through all the drama. I married a wonderful guy from Lompoc that has been the love of my life ever since. We have 11 grandchildren (thanks to my daughter & son) we just adore. Memories of high school are mostly skipping to run off to the beach. Crusing Broadway and the movies. Class was always boring for me. I was more interested in "boys." Later I went to college (some Hancock but my degree came from Santa Barbara. We moved to Washington in 1991 but I still catch myself calling Santa Maria home. Wish I knew what I do now. I'd been far more involved with school. Miss many of you.

¿que pasa? Hey, I've had a rough couple of weeks. I'm looking for understanding and comfort. Well, okay. I was just a little bored and figured I would rouse my old time classmates. ;>0
Golf, anyone?

Well yeah Steve...don't you have a Birthday coming up?...have you been practicing your golf swing?...Doug is getting ready for the st Petersburg City Championship-Senior Division on Oct 17... Google his name...should pop up for previous wins before he was a senior and after...he's hoping this year will make it 3 in a row...trouble is they give away big golf pictures for 1st place...I no longer have wall space....I'll probably have to rotate them out and put away in the attic (air conditioned..wont get hurt!)

Happy Easter to all. Good time to reflect and be grateful for our blessing of friends and family, and for believers, our relationship to our God.

AND, this is a good time to seriously start getting into the golf game and other outdoor activities.
