So you want to play with hubbie, Doug then. I will move the "signed up list" to the end of this forum soon. I think we are going to have players of all different skill levels. I know for myself, I haven't played in nearly two years. So I don't have a handicap anymore. And if I play anything like I have after similar lay offs over the years, I might end up playing like a 30 to 35 handicapper (from maybe around a 15 +/- when I play frequently). Depends on how much practice and play I get in between now and August. I suspect we may have a couple of single handicappers, a few mid level 10 to 20s and several, including myself, that play above that and well above that. So you will be in good company, Jacque.

DEar Steve ~ I think I mentioned before that you might want to double check with Bob Rogers and Tom Martinez because I think they had a conflict that precluded them from attending this year. Don't want to mess up your foursomes!!

I think they both have expressed an interest. But it sounds like you know something I don't. Actually, I think we have at least another month for people to decide what they want to do as to the golf game.

DEar Steve ~ both were planning on attending the reunion and were actually on the committee and already made great contributions. But midway, Tom realized he already had a commitment that weekend and a great opportunity arose for Bob so it is my understanding that neither are attending this year.

If you want to email them and verify, that would be great or if you want me to, just send me an email and I can follow up for you - no problem.

Sounds like things are coming together nicely. Thank you very much for your efforts and time.

It seems as though Michael Jacques is living the high life in Mexico. In the tip of Baja he has built a palapa with a tower to spy the good waves and surfs most days. He retired as did his wife marylyn (staying in Orcutt) and he is doing what we all wanted to do when we graduated-- play for a while. I have sent him an invitation to join class of 68 pages. Haven't seen him here yet. Someone get Marilyn (Trout) Jacques out and into the reunion.

Sherry Temple (Teachout)

Dear Bob ~ funny that you would mention Mike Jacques because Marty Morrisroe just joined the site and we were catching up and he said their old times for the 4x400 or 4x100(senior moment) still were unbeaten. I asked who else ran the relay with him and he said Greg Straolzini, Danny Ontiveros, and Mike Jacques who moved to Puerto Escondido and is surfing there for the rest of his life.

Wow....I can just see him. Hope someone knows how to get in touch with Marilyn....

There is a live webcam for the beach at Puerto Escondido. Maybe we'll see Mike out there.

Puerto Escondido or the tip of Baja? If it's Puerto
Escondido...Wow! Mike sure got that one right.

They have any golf courses down there? We could always move the 68 is Great Golf Outing down to Mike's place. Drive might be a little trying though.

THE 68 IS GREAT GOLF EXTRAVAGANZA IS STILL ON EVERYONE. WE AREN'T CLOSING ANY SIGN UPS YET. I THINK WE HAVE 14 OR SO THAT HAVE EXPRESSED SOME INTEREST. WE WILL PROBABLY RESERVE A TIME NEXT WEEK SOMETIME. I THINK WE WILL TRY TO RESERVE ENOUGH TO ACCOMODATE 6 FOURSOMES (24). SO THERE IS STILL ROOM TO SIGN UP! Okay, Claaaaass, ATTENTION PLEASE! Please go to your desks and sit down. Now rise for the Pledge of Allegiance....Okay, we have a SPECIAL ANNOUNCMENT...the '68 IS GREAT GOLF EXTRAVAGANZE [sic] STEERING COMMITTEE, headed by Steve Leger, Head Honcho, Chief of Stuff, and Professional Head, Ad Hoc, Ad Nauseum, per son, Ad Lib, on behalf of said committee, composed of Steve Leger, Chair, and John Huitt, Senior member, and ... are proud to announce: IT IS OFFICIAL! HEAR YE, HEAR YE, HEAR YE...NOW HEAR THIS, NOW HEAR THIS...THE OFFICIAL SITE OF THE 68 IS GREAT GOLF EXTRAVANZE [sic] IS THE RANCHO MARIA GOLF COURSE, on Saturday, August 1, 2009 @ 8:00 a.m. in the morning (starting time). It will be a shotgun format (which means it would probably be good to get there not much after 7 am). There is still plenty of time to figure out if we want to introduce some sort of competitive format or for some awards. Some type of fun stuff. We have about 4-foursomes for now. The signup for the EXTRAVAGANZE [sic] can continue into the middle of July or longer, so there is plenty of time to sign up. There is also enough time to get some practice in. So that means I have to start back at the range again. And don't forget to practice that short game! Anyone reading this and knows of people who are signed up or may want to play, please notify them. I will try to send out emails or PMs from here to those signed up already. Let's try to get at least 5 or 6 foursomes out there! This could really be some fun (and in my case, a little embarrassing). Is there anyone out there who has the equipment and knowledge to run a power point program? Marvon Hadsal did a presentation, but is not able to attend now. I have no idea how to run the program so need someone with power point experience.

Marvon will send the presentation to either Sherry or me but we need some help.

Thanks-Dorothy

R. Matias Rico

Hi there, anyone with a laptop can do it...such as myself. The Inn should be able to provide the projector and cable to attach to the laptop. The images can then be displayed on a screen or 'blank' wall. If there is sound involved, the Inn should also have a cable/speakers to connect the laptop . Sherry can ask the Inn about their equipment, if they have it, we are good to go.

07/09/09 07:45 PM #56

Sherry Temple (Teachout)

To Matias - I am going to call Rikki because she thinks she has the VGA adapter cord and PC computer. IT can't be a MAC. We have already secured the projector and screen from the INN but they knew nothing of the cord...also, it has to be in MS 2000 or more current to operate.

Marvon is going to send them along and I will contact you on your email about it. You were definitely on my mind as someone to contact....after I read your profile. I wanted to ask someone driving since traveling with it may be difficult for some if flying.

I just got back from a two-day trip so will check with Rikki first.

Thanks so much....

Sherry

Hi All ~ The power point problem is SOLVED. Marvon sent a copy to me and I burned a copy for myself and sent the original to Matias Rico who is going to handle the rest.

The INN has the projector, screen and we will make sure we have the VGA adapter cord so we are good to go.

Many thanks to Marvon Hadsell and Dorothy DesLauriers who collaborated for our enjoyment.

Thanks to all who assisted in this...

Sherry

Hello everyone! I think Mike and I need to let you all know that we've made the decision not to attend our reunion. It was a tough decision but after alot of thought it's come down to just not wanting to do any traveling for a while. We have had three deaths in the family so have made three trips to California already this year. We traveled to Australia for a couple of weeks in April/May. We've had a difficult time finding flights that Friday night (we both have to work late) or early Saturday morning that are straight thru to "somewhere" near Santa Maria to be able to attend the reunion dinner and then a flight out that Sunday to get home at a decent hour to be able to get to work the following Monday. It just doesn't seem to be working out and I'm tired of stressing over it. So, as much as we would enjoy seeing all of you, it just isn't going to happen this year. I'm hoping pictures will be posted on this website after the gatherings and wish you all a wonderful time. We'll be thinking of you.

Hi friends! I am sorry to miss the reunion weekend, but my work schedule just won't allow it. I will be thinking of you, and wishing you lots of fun and happy conversations, and good golf!

Being able to re-connect with so many old friends has been a profound pleasure. Catching up through the conversations has brought back wonderful memories. Thank you for getting in touch and for writing your recollections. My mother has enjoyed the stories that some of you sent about her teaching days at SMHS.

I send a big thank you to Sherry for setting up the forum. I hope to see everyone at the next reunion!

Kathy

Sorry to hear about you guys not being able to make it. I still don't know if I can make the dinner either, still up in the air. But we will try to get some action shots on the golf course. I guess it is time I read the instruction for my little kodak digital I bought last Christmas. Cute little things. Slip right into the pocket. THE '68 IS GREAT GOLF CLASSIC Okay, we are set for Rancho Maria. It will be $47 per person with a cart. I don't think carts are mandatory--well, not mandatory except for old, out of shape, and rotund golfers like me; I can't haul a golf bag for 18 holes without struggle. I know, I know, I will have to work on that. For you hard core golfers out there, that is very reasonable for a weekend. Right now, they have us down for up to 24 participants. It is still possible to sign up more. And it is getting close. Now is the time to think up some ideas for a format of play. Also, maybe we can arrange for a 9th hold stop for refreshments. Now, my game is sufficiently miserable right now that I don't need an additional handicap of adult beverage, but I am sure some will BYO, or want to purchase some at the course. I think this can turn out to be a pretty fun time. I will try to send a mass email to everyone this weekend. For those that I don't have the email addresses for, I will try to contact you via the Reunion site. Steve Leger

Nancy Trebon (Howard)

Hi All,

I just spent the last 20 minutes reading all of your forum messages. I am so jealous, I had emergency surgery last Thursday for what should not be a difficult thing , a broken finger and bruised ribs. But I fell so hard (playing tennis) I broke the bone off my middle left finger and they, have to my regret, put five metal pins through my finger. So I am not going to be able to attend. Too painful. too complicated to be able to attend, so someone take lots of pictures and post on our site. If there is any video taping would love to pay for a copy. So the event I have been waiting more than a year for I will miss.

Enjoy all the great conversations and all the humor of our truly Senior Class. And discounts are great (as long as my husband is the one asking for it)
