What is the possibility of getting live entertainment for Saturday evening?
It’s always nice to have dinning music and perhaps a little dance music afterwards.
Just a suggestion in case we go in that direction>>>>>>>>>(http://www.timbuleyband.com)
Good entertainer!

This is not a resonce to any message but one asking favor. Is there anyone who lives in Santa Maria have a "boom box" that we can take to Waller Park so we can play some'60's music? I have several '60's cds and am sure there are locals that have some too.
Would be fun to listen to while at the park. Let me know and I will bring the oldies music I have.

Hey all,
I scanned the portrait pages from my yearbook and added to my page. We sure were a fine looking group.

I'll add more pages in the next few days/weeks.

Just talked to Paul Aquino's mom and got his phone #. She indicated he was having oral surgery but I left a message regarding the reunion and my phone # for him. I'll give him a few days and if I don't hear from him, I will follow up.

Now hear this! I guess ol Huitt rangled me into organizing Saturday's 68 Golf Extravaganza because I live somewhat close by. Heck, I don't even play the Game!--okay, I do, but hitting the ball is a struggle still. I do love the carts though. Heck, we will probably all be driving golf carts to work and store before too long anyway. Tentative plans are, 1) Play a course that is within 1/2 hours drive from Santa Maria. For you googlers, that could include several courses that have sprouted up in the Nipomo area. Remember Nipomo? That widening in the highway to Pismo Beach/Avila Beach where you might stop to get a steak. Geesh, it is now a major metropolitan area! 2) La Purisima, just east of Lompoc. This is truly a great course. Fun to play and mess up on for golfers like me, and a real challenge for the low handicappers. Get to use the long sticks a lot. 3) Rancho Maria, just south of Santa Maria. A fun course that still is challenging. Very affordable too. I will try to post some links to these courses so anyone who may be interested can check them out. Please contact me or Huitt with your preferences. If any of you "locals" know of more courses in and around Santa Maria, let me know. They very well could have snuck a couple of newer ones in on me without me knowing. The plan is to try to get a good idea on who wants to play by the end of May--although I will try to reserve enough slots for some late comers. We already have at least a couple of 4somes interested. I am going to start contacting various courses to see about reserving early starting times. If we get enough interested we may have to do a tournament. My experience organizing golfing outings is limited to getting a foursome together, so this will be a learning experience for me too. AND, this is open to spouses, kids that are old enough, friends, lovers, extramarital partners, et al. Any good ideas are welcome. I will periodically report back on what I have found out. I think that's it for now. Huitt, ya got anything to add?

Steveo, put me down as a participant. I have recently started hitting the little white ball again. Now if I can just figure out where it's going it should be some fun. Do we each get our own cart? Maybe we should do bumper carts instead, I know I could hit one of those.

Hi Everybody, my suggestion is to use the Rancho Maria golfcourse at 1950 Casmalia Rd. in Santa Maria. On Saturday, Aug 1, they are hosting an open to the public Shotgun tourney. The cost for the 18 hole tourney is $43.00 with cart or for the hardy, $35 without. Not bad 'for a good walk spoiled'. The start time is 8:00 am and the Shotgun tourney can accommodate groups of foursomes or fivesomes. The Rancho Maria contact is Mike O'Keefe at 805 937 2019. Their url is: www. ranchomariagolf.com - so check it out. All this info was provided to me by our great Coach Yanez who will want to join us on the golf outing. So Steve, please contact Mike O'Keefe , the course pro, and set up some tee times for the SMHS golfers...hope to see lots of you guys and gals there!

Great Matias (aka, Randy)! Just a couple of things to consider though. First, I did call Rancho Maria and the guy who answered didn't know anything. The Mike guy won't be in until Tuesday, at which time I will call. Another thing I noticed was that their schedule of events didn't show anything for the 1st. They have something planned for the weekend before and the 15th. Another thing is that I still am not sure how many are going to sign up. John and I have been talking about leaving it open until the end of the month. It seems that people are still straggling in from time to time either to sign up for the reunion or just sign up for the site. I know I found this site almost by accident. I suspect we might still have some more golfers signing up over the next several weeks. Therefore, I cannot estimate just how many will want to play. I can talk that over with the Rho Maria dude on Tuesday also. I was also thinking about contacting La Purisima Golf Course. http://www.lapurisimagolf.com/ It is a great course. In fact they are having US Open Qualifying on the 6th and 9th of the month. Now they are more expensive. Look like the retail rate for a weekend with cart is 100 +/-. Not that I can get a break, but I do know the owner of the course and was thinking of contacting him to get a referral of who to contact. I have worked for him over the years, so who knows. I do know he is a good guy and pays well...:>) Here is who have expressed interest so far: 1. Me 2. John the MAN, Huitt 3. Bob Rogers 4. Bob Ryan 5. Miles Moore 6. Matias Rico 7. Doug Root 8. Coach Yanez 9. Ed Hill 10. Tom Martinez 11. Jimmie Adams 12. Ralph Ioimo 13. Joel Rossetti 14. Eric Dompeling* 15 & 16 Scott Morlan*, et ux., i.e., Mrs. Scott M., aka, Chris Morlan* That makes 4 foursomes so far (I am a little challenged in math...16 divided by 4 is 4, right?). I suspect we will be able to get, at least, one, two, or more in addition *Request to be in the same foursome.

If I could just add my two cents. Purisima is a TOUGH course. For those of us who just started golfing, it can be a bear. Black Lake in Nipomo has three nines and works very well if you have enough fours that you want to set up some sort of a tournament format. Typically you can only make tee times seven or fourteen days in advance, so waiting until you have more sign-ups is probably a great idea.

05/04/09 02:28 PM #24

Jimmie Adams

Steve,
This is Jim Adams, I spoke with Ralph Ioimo and
he said he would bring his clubs if I were brave enough to make a fool out of myself on the course again.
So I guess you can count us in.

Oh, don't worry about the shape of your game. I know Huitt and I are scrambling just to be able to hit the ball again. There might be a couple of sharp shooters, but I suspect most of us are on some sort of life support with the game. Main thing is to have fun.

Hey guys and gals, if you are signing up for the Saturday Golf Extravaganza would any of you mind also sending me your email addresses. I just recently noticed they are appended to the email notifications I get when someone sends me a message through the site. However, I have been deleting them from my email once I read the messages here. That was a mistake. As Huitt reminded me, I could have just set up a folder to put them in. Hey, I never claimed to be the brightest bulb on the tree. That will help in case we need to send a mass email to everyone. Of course, we can announce things here as well. And don't forget, any ideas or suggestions are welcome. Huitt has been checking out the courses up in the Nipomo area--on the internet. Maybe he can let us know his impressions. Tom Martinez thought Black Lake would be a good one (you play 2 of the 3 nine hole layouts), and I concur, having played there myself. And there are a couple of others up there also. Still need to contact Rho Maria.

Hi Guys!
For me I just want to play, like I've said before, I've never played a sport (golf) I was so bad at, and enjoyed so much! One concern at the Rancho Maria Tourney would be if you had to have a listed current handicap. If guys haven't been playing that could be a party breaker. Tom had a good idea about Black Lake. Cypress Ridge is down the road from Black Lake and is a enjoyable course. The newest course in Nipomo is Monarch Dunes and is good if you like putting on glass. I think somebody mentioned that a goal was to stay within 30 minutes of SM, the only other course is at Avila.
Any way whatever is decided I'll see you there! by the way If anybody is coming to the area early and would like to come up to Atascadero I have a couple or three discount rounds for Chalk Mountain. Also, I believe the Mid-state Fair in Paso Robles will be in full swing at the time of the reunion

RANDOM THOUGHTS FOR A WEDNESDAY MORNING: I went to a Carls Jr. Got a Senior discount. Within a year or two, just about all of us will be eligible for massive Senior discounts. Even at golf courses. Pretty young women now call me Mr. Leger...young men call me "sir." Geesh, how depressing. Guess I will get to work. RANDOM THOUGHTS FOR A WEDNESDAY MORNING

Dear Golfers ~ this has been entertaining reading for me even though I am not golfing!! Last I heard Tom Martinez and Bob Rogers had a commitment that came up and they won't be attending....so you may want to check that out so it doesn't affect your foursomes. I may not be updated but that was the last I heard.

Steve, I know what you mean about the senior discounts. Sometimes I like them and sometimes I don't want to have them. I used to be called Miss but now it's Ma'am. My first graders think I am older than dirt!! Sixty is starting to sound older than dirt to me, too. Maybe they are rubbing off on me or maybe sixty just is older than dirt!! I have another year to figure it out!

Have fun with your plans -

Steve, I know what you mean about being called "Sir" and offered a "Senior Discount", but the closer I get to Sixty the less it feels like "older than dirt". I still ride motorcycles (both street and dirt) and sometimes whomp on the younger riders (20 to 40 year olds). I guess the only time I really start feeling "old" is when my great-grandson comes running up to me, yelling "Poppa, Poppa" and I remember it seemed like only yesterday that his momma was doing the same thing at about the same age.

Hey Marvon ~ I agree with you. I am going out kicking and screaming....I still am singing and dancing in the shows, running after my grandkids and will probably do wheelies with my walker.

MORE RANDOM THOUGHTS BY LEGER Well, I see ol Marvon and Sherry are just a bit too cheery for the kid here. As I greet the morning, looking at the smoke filled sky wondering if this could turn into a disaster of historical portions, I was wondering if only I was given a quarter for every time someone has looked me up over the last twenty years or so and greeted me by saying: "I thought you were dead." Well, I guess I would have a fairly good size jar of quarters. MORE RANDOM THOUGHTS BY LEGER

NON-RANDOM THOUGHTS, GOLF TOURNEY NEWS FROM LEGER I called Mike O'Keefe at Rancho Maria Golf Course. They do have an open to the public, 8am start, shotgun format type tourney set up for August 1st. No one has signed up yet and he doesn't expect any sign ups for a while. In fact, I have the impression that the date isn't widely known. I told him about our class reunion and desire to have a golf outing. I told him we have near 4 foursomes already and want to leave our signup open to at least the end of May. So he has "penciled in" about 5 or 6 foursomes and I gave him my phone number. If we end up having more, I am sure they can accomodate it. Being a shotgun format means we should all be finished at the same time also. That way we can all meet at the 19th hole when we are finished around noon. We have plenty of time, but we could even have them make us up some goodies to eat and things like that. This may be our best option with the amount of people that will be playing. If we get, say, 6 foursomes and all go off a first tee on another course, even one after the other, the first to finish would probably have to wait an hour or more before everyone would finish--and there would not be much of a chance to socialize a little. I think Matias may have been on to something here. We have some time to chew it over. I am back to work. No retirement for me. Let me know if anyone has any questions or ideas. Time to start practicing! Leger

Good work, Steve. I thought you were DEAD....??? Seriously, someone said that? You seem to be alive and kicking to me.

Thanks for the update on the golf....by the time you guys nail this, it is going to be memorable and fun.

Sorry, you are right - I am a bit on the cheerful side. My roomates in college used to kick me out and make me go get the donuts from the donut truck at San Diego State - they complained I was too happy in the morning.

Bev Spuhler (Vietor)

Sherry, you are the energy bunny. You are answering emails until midnight to me, after you returned home from singing in a show. Guess you will have to get the guys in our class back in shape. Which means we need a talent show. Tom Pentecost is a Shakespearian actor now. Hope he signs up on our class web soon. He is in Texas now. Several class mates are still singing and playing music. Yes, talent show is what we need for the 45th, Edna Montes is talented, maybe she could chair this.

05/11/09 01:22 PM #36

Sherry Temple (Teachout)

Dear Bev ~ I think we can generate ideas at the 41st and see what everyone wants to do for upcoming reunions. We are a talented bunch, for sure, and only limited by our creative energy and willingness to execute!! So if people want to do a talent show or whatever, go for it!!

I want to keep moving as long as I can!!!

Hi Steve:

If the course needs handicaps let me know, my husband Doug is a good golfer but not the kind that looks down at the duffer, he's been city champion for 6 years (consectively 3 yrs in a role) and pst 2 yrs Sr City champion, as well as past club champion at our club st Petersburg Country club, however all this is not meant to intimidate because he will play with me -who has no handicap, I whack at the ball at least 16 strokes a hole (he tends to let others- many others...play thru :))is very even keeled and just loves to play golf. Me, I'd rather play tennis (3.5 league) I think we should also set up Round Robin mixed doubles Tennis match for the tennis players!!! We plan on flying in on Thursday, so Friday morning or Saturday morning is good. Can't wait to meet up with my classmates!!! Jacque Rico Root
