I moved from Santa Maria to Mill Valley our senior year, and then attended UC Santa Cruz, where I met my husband. We moved to Berkeley, married there in 1973, and I finished my degree at UC San Francisco's school of nursing and worked as a maternity nurse.
Our daughters were born in the Bay Area before we moved to San Diego in 1980. I left nursing when our son was born, and when my husband faced a serious illness. His health returned, but as I treasured my weekends and free schedule, I didn't return to nursing.
Over time, two of the kids migrated back to the Bay Area. One daughter is the Children/Young Adult Librarian for San Diego's County Library; the other daughter just re-located from San Francisco to the University of Virginia for graduate school; our son lives in San Francisco where he works in theater and is the proud founder of a struggling theater company.
I work for San Diego Junior Theatre, a 60 year-old youth performance and education company in Balboa Park. Working with production and kids has been wonderfully fun and rewarding, but I find myself looking to return to the medical world. With that in mind, I have been volunteering with San Diego Hospice and Palliative Care.
My favorite times are spent with children and friends, traveling, hiking, and baking pastry.
I have always regretted that I missed sharing senior year with you friends, some of whom I knew from kindergarten. I fondly remember the beautiful school, and all the crazy, confusing, heartbreaking, exuberant, and exciting days of failure and success.

Dear Ed,
You are in my thoughts. I am so sorry that your wife, Gail, has passed away. I remember what a pleasure it was to meet her when we got together with other Santa Maria High School friends at our house. I send my sympathy and my wishes for peace for you and your family.
With deep respect,
Kathy
Hi Carole! It's good to hear from you. I laughed out loud at your memory of Santa Maria's wind. I hated it, too. My husband and I are retired in Bonita, a community south of San Diego. We love visiting the Central Coast of California, but we don't stop much in Santa Maria. Too windy.
